MSU College of Engineering recognizes 18 for excellence in contributions
The Michigan State University College of Engineering recognizes 18 faculty and staff members with awards for their excellence in service and distinguished contributions. Each year, faculty and staff are nominated by their colleagues, industry peers and students for the most prestigious honors the college offers.
Donor’s gift aims at ‘leaving footprints behind’
JA Schmidt, a 1971 graduate of Michigan State University, believes in the old adage that the world can’t exist without farmers and engineers. “As a first-generation college graduate and the son of a Michigan farmer, my MSU degree in mechanical engineering made a notable impact on my life and career,” Schmidt said.
Welcoming new faculty
Michigan State University’s College of Engineering welcomed seven faculty in Spring 2025. Interim Dean of Engineering John Papapolymerou said that these additions will help the growing student body become innovative and solution oriented.
Fall 2024 Design Day Award Winners
The Michigan State University College of Engineering celebrated Engineering Design Day on Dec. 6, 2024. The event, now in its 31st year, showcased student projects from the Departments of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

The Michigan State University College of Engineering was recently featured on the Global Auto Mobility “Engineering Careers Tour” podcast. The panel included Josh Siegel, assistant professor of computer science and engineering, and electrical and computer engineering; Garth Motschenbacher, director of employer relations; and Tamara Reid Bush, associate dean for inclusion and diversity and professor of mechanical engineering.
